McTimoney Chiropractic
What is McTimoney Chiropractic?
McTimoney Chiropractic is a gentle method of adjusting the bones of your body to improve the alignment of the spine and other joints, helping function and easing pain.
A McTimoney Chiropractor focuses on all your structural framework, not just the relationship of your bones to each other but also the way your muscles move and shape your body structure. The aim of treatment is to restore alignment and help to return normal movement actions, thus reducing pain.
When the spine is correctly aligned the nerves coming out between the vertebrae are able to function normally. However, when the spine is misaligned, the nerves can be compressed, causing pain and reduced mobility. In addition, during treatment a McTimoney Chiropractor focuses not just on your spine but also on the functioning of all the joints in your body.
The McTimoney Chiropractic technique
McTimoney Chiropractors use a number of fast, gentle, low level of force, adjustments to aid in the realignment of joints. These interventions require more than just mechanical skill, they require a great deal of sensitivity. The techniques make this approach very suitable for people of all ages, including babies, pregnant women and older people.
Joint problems, pain and associated problems that can benefit from this technique may occur for many reasons, including:
· Incorrect lifting
· Car or minor sporting accidents
· Falls
· Stress
· Poor posture
What can I expect from my first consultation?
A full case history is taken to assess not just your existing symptoms but also your general health and previous conditions. This is then followed with a physical examination to locate the issue(s); sometimes this will include neurological and orthopaedic tests. A chiropractor's will also check for signs of any serious conditions for which you may need referral to your GP or specialist advice and further tests. Very occasionally it may be recommended and or necessary to refer you for an MRI scan. Normally your first visit can last anything between 30 minutes and an hour.
Statutory Regulation
The title McTimoney Chiropractor, is a government statutory regulated title awarded and regulated by the General Chiropractic Council (GCC) to a person who trained as chiropractor practising the McTimoney technique. The training to become a McTimoney Chiropractor can take between 4-6 yrs. dependent on the course studied. The training is regulated by the General Chiropractic Council (GCC) who then continue to regulate all registered chiropractors. The term “Chiropractor” is a protected title and it is illegal to use this if you are not registered with the GCC.
